I couldn´t really get helpful information at the busstation in Puerto Montt. Thats why I dicided to hitchhike all the way to Santiago. After an incredible breakfast I took my bike to get on the highway. In Germany it would be impossible to be on the highway without you car. It would even cause a Radio announcement/ warning on the radio. But here there are people walking on the side of the road or they are even crossing the highway. Cars are stopping or they are parking cause something get sold along the road. And there are also people riding their bicycle on the shoulder. First I wasn´t sure about it but when I saw other people doing it I thought.. I can do it as well. So let´s go. And if it´s not working at all I can still continue arguing with the bus companies.
I needed 6 cars and two days in total to get to Santiago (1000km). I started kind of late at the 10th and I didn´t want to hitchhike at night. So I decided to stay a night in Chillan. I guess I was looking kind of lost when I cycled around downtown trying to find a place to stay for the night. I met Emilio (same age than me) on the road and after he told me that there is no campground in town he invited me to stay the night at his families house. I had a hard time with the little spanish I speek. But I was relieved that I found a place to stay.
I arrived in Santiago on march 11. Now I will enjoy my last days in south america and I will get things ready for the next flight. I´m already missing to sit on the bike after two days just sitting in the car.
Auf Grund der dürftigen Informationen der Busgesellschaften ging es für mich am 10.3. nach einem unglaublich guten Frühstück ab auf den Highway. Das, was in Deutschland unmöglich ist und gleich Radiodurchsagen verursacht , ist hier ohne Probleme möglich. Es laufen Personen am Rad oder über die Fahrbahn, Autos halten an oder parken, weil irgendetwas am Straßenrand verkauft wird oder es fahren Radfahrer auf dem Standstreifen. Ich war mir zuerst etwas unsicher, aber was andere können, kann ich auch. Also auf geht’s Richtung Norden. Ein Versuch ist es Wert und wenn es nicht klappt hätte, hätte ich mich weiter mit den Busgesellschaften herumgeärgert.
Insgesamt habe ich 6 Autos und zwei Tag für die knapp 1000 km nach Santiago gebraucht. Ich bin am 10. erst relativ spät aufgebrochen und wollte nicht nachts trampen,. Deshalb habe ich einen Übernachtungsstopp in Chillan gemacht. Als ich dort abends verloren auf der Suche nach einer Unterkunft war, kam ich mit Emilio, der genauso alt ist wie ich, ins Gespräch. Nachdem er mir erklärt hatte, dass es keinen Campingplatz gibt etc., bot er mir an, dass ich bei seiner Familie im Haus übernachten könne. Mein Spanisch wurde wieder auf eine harte Probe gestellt, aber ich war super froh und erleichtert eine Bleibe für die Nacht gefunden zu haben.
Am 11. bin ich abends in Santiago angekommen. Die letzten Tage in Südamerika werde ich nun genießen und dafür nutzen alles für meinen nächsten Flug vorzubereiten. Ich vermisse es jetzt schon, nach den 2 Tagen im Auto, auf dem Rad zu sitzen.
